Responsible Brand: FRANC

In the last little while, I’ve become a fan of a few new brands that aligned better with my buying morale. One of these brands is Toronto label, FRANC. Being ethically-made, responsibly sourced, and providing the opportunity to support local (for my fellow Canadians) is a great and some what less common opportunity worth jumping on. But don’t just take my word for it – let’s talk about behind the scenes of this new favourite of mine.

FRANC relies on a local, women owned and operated factory, where they have first-hand relationships with the people who make their — and in turn, your — clothes. *Check out the #imadeyourclothes movement. Fabrics are predominantly bamboo cottons, all of which are ‘STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX’ certified (What the heck is that? Read here.) And if you’re a frequent online shopper – like myself – you can count of the packaging being recycled paper and minimal.

I know that might seem like a lot to take in, but seriously, not only should we know, but we DESERVE to have a little more transparency behind where we put our dollars.

Now, as a style loving person myself, I know as much as the next that sometimes it sounds great but ends there. Reality is, a big part of bettering our habits can come from choosing items that are quality and that we love wholeheartedly. Much like well-made clothes, loved clothes last the longest. As much as I often love many of the styles that revolve through a year, I strive for classic and/or timeless for sake of better buying habits and less discontent when trends eventually fade. For this reason, my most favourite items are quality basics and FRANC has no shortage of that. In fact, that’s exactly what you can depend on getting there. Well made, proper fitting, still stylish, basics. And that’s something I can appreciate a thousand times over for both the longevity and for making a basics and the outfits comprised of them, anything BUT “basic”. Fun fact: Brandi Mercredi, founder of FRANC, was actually the designer behind my original favourite collection of children’s basics at Mini Mioche.

I styled ‘The Fleece Tee’ here, with skinnies (also responsibly made) and sneakers for a casual look, but still felt put together without having to layer a sweatshirt over – it really is the best of both worlds – as well as by cuffing the sleeves for a little extra personal touch. In fact, adjusting to this Vancouver weather has made me think that having it in black as well, would be totally worthwhile.

This, ‘Girl Gang Tee’ is another of my favourite FRANC items that I had to give a sneak peek of and will be including in my spring/summer capsule for it’s perfect fit, softness, and obviously killer graphic print. After all. You shouldn’t have to brave the F21 racks to make a statement and this message is one I can definitely get behind!

Stay tuned for more 'Girl Gang' stylings and find details on the first shared look below.

Xx, Olivia.
